Season 1920–21 was the 44th season in which Dumbarton competed at a Scottish national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the 22nd time and the Scottish Cup for the 33rd time. == Overview == Dumbarton finished 21st, out of 22, in the First Division with 24 points, well behind champions Rangers. Despite Duncan Walker finding the net 15 times, the inability to score was a problem, and with just 41 goals to their credit, Dumbarton finishing up as lowest scorers in the league. In the Scottish Cup, Dumbarton reached the fourth round before losing to Rangers. Locally, Dumbarton again failed to progress from the sectional stage of the Dumbartonshire Cup and in the Dumbartonshire Charity Cup following a draw with Vale of Leven in the semi final, a replay date could not be arranged and Dumbarton agreed to scratch from the competition. During the season, a friendly was also played against Rothesay Juniors.
